UN, Saudi Arabia talk about finishing Yemen war
The United Nations Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, yesterday met with the Saudi Deputy Defense Minister, Khalid Bin Salman Al-Saud, in the Saudi capital city of Riyadh, where they talked about ways of finishing the conflict in Yemen.
“I like the amazing chance to talk about ways of finishing the Yemen war and guarantee dependability on the Arabian Peninsula with Prince Khalid Bin Salman,” Grundberg said on Twitter, adding that the two of them consented to “work intently together and to proceed with participation”.
Grundberg had been in Yemen for a day’s-long visit to talk about the Yemen struggle. During his visit, he met with the Yemeni Foreign Minister, Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, and the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General, Nayef Al-Hajraf.
On 12 January, Grundberg told the UN Security Council that Yemen, which is seeing a conflict between the Iranian-upheld Houthis and the Saudi-drove Arab alliance that upholds the genuine government, was progressively crumbling strategically, financially and militarily, noticing that “the contention is entering another pattern of acceleration.”
